The benefits of leisure

The benefits of leisure

Parks and Recreation Arlington 27(11): 16-23, 25, 75

This article presents the state of scientific knowledge about the benefits of leisure. The review draws heavily on the recently published 'Benefits of leisure' (Driver et al. 1991). It points out that leisure has physiological, psych-physiological, economical, environmental, psychological and social impacts. The benefits in each of these areas are discussed. Lists of documented benefits are not sufficient for leisure to compete more effectively for limited public funds.
