The Body Profile Analysis System (BPAS) to estimate ideal body size and shape: application to ballet dancers and gymnasts

A review of an anthropometric technique to evaluate body size and shape, the Body Profile Analysis System (BPAS), is presented. The original Behnke somatogram (Human Biology (1959) 31, 213-234) to quantify body shape has been a useful approach for partitioning a matrix of girths into ponderal equivalent muscular and non-muscular components which can be related to the body as a whole.
