The breeding, importing, testing and general characteristics of Yugoslavian honey bees bred for resistance to Varroa jacobsoni

The breeding, importing, testing and general characteristics of Yugoslavian honey bees bred for resistance to Varroa jacobsoni

American Bee Journal 133(3): 197-200

In Belgrade, 2 lines of Apis mellifera carnica were selectively bred through 4 generations to give one line that was resistant and another that was susceptible to V. jacobsoni. Resistant bees (Y) were imported to USA, where trials were carried out to assess their resistance compared with another strain of A. m. carnica, an F1 hybrid of this strain and Y, and commercial USA Italian bees.
