The chemical composition and energetic content of the biomass of weeds in rice fields in central Chile

The coverage, biomass, chemical composition and energetic content of the following 10 weeds growing in unweeded rice fields were determined: Alisma lanceolatum, Carex canescens, E. macrostachya, Paspalum distichum, Ammannia coccinea, Cyperus haspan, Echinochloa crus-galli, L. peploides and T. angustifolia (classified as 5 therophytes, 4 hemicryophytes and 2 cryptophytes, resp.). Rice had a coverage of 36% while weeds had 100% coverage over different layers.
