The chemical composition of Spanish myrtle oils. Part II

The essential oils of leaves, flowers, unripe and ripe fruits of Myrtus communis collected in Spain were analysed by GC/MS. About 130 compounds were isolated, of which 80 were identified and quantified. The yields of oils were: leaves, 0.4-0.5%; flowers, 0.4%; unripe fruits, 0.5%; and ripe fruits, 0.02%. The main constituents of the leaf, flower and unripe fruit oils were myrtenyl acetate (23.6-35.9%), 1,8-cineole (16.5-29.9%), alpha -pinene (8.2-19.4%) and limonene (7.6-10.4%).
