The effect of cutting date on forage yield and quality of Rhodes grass

In field trials in 1987-90, 3 Chloris gayana cultivars were cut at intervals of 40, 50 or 60 d. Average annual DM yields were 16.81 t/ha for cutting every 40 d, 18.32 t for cutting every 50 d and 21.47 t for cutting every 60 d and were 19.92 t for A184, 19.39 t for A205 and 17.30 t for A215. The CP content decreased from 13.14% with cutting every 40 d to 10.58% for cutting every 60 d and were 11.80% for A184, 11.77% for A205 and 11.59% for A215.
