Symptoms of natural T. clareae infestations in an Apis mellifera apiary in Hisar, India, were studied by observations every 2 weeks during 1991. The most noticeable symptoms were: adult mites running on the top-bars of brood frames; small pores in 2-3% of sealed worker brood, and mites in normally sealed worker cells; dead adult mites in hive debris; crawling bees with deformed/incised wings and/or legs.
