Wheat plants were grown in a controlled environment chamber, under growth conditions comparable to those for field crops, in an atmosphere containing 14CO2 of constant specific activity. The distribution of photosynthetically fixed 14C between shoots and below-ground pools was measured after a 63-day growth period, from early tillering to anthesis.
