The pharmaco-chemical study on the plant of Ixeris spp. 2. Flavonoids and free amino acid composition of Ixeris sonchifolia

Whole plants of the cultivated herb I. sonchifolia are used in a traditional bitter Kimchi in Korea; they are also used in Chinese medicine for their stomach tonic, sedative and diuretic properties. A methanolic extract of the leaves showed strong hypocholesterolaemic activity; from it were isolated 3 flavonoids, identified from spectral data as luteolin, cynaroside and apigenin 7-O- beta -D-glucuronopyranoside.
