The selection programme and evaluation of coffee varieties in Central America

The selection programme and evaluation of coffee varieties in Central America

Boletin de PROMECAFE ( 49): 13-16

Results of trials over several years in Nicaragua, Honduras and Costa Rica to identify high yielding and quality bean varieties resistant to rust (Hemileia vastatrix) revealed that PROMECAFE 1 and PROMECAFE 2, compared to the commercial varieties Catuai and Caturra, are potential alternatives for small and medium-sized farms, exceeding commercial varieties by 18-20% for bean yield.
