The following issues are addressed: (1) storage of DNA from threatened breeds/strains of livestock; (2) DNA variation (DNA sequences, restriction fragment length polymorphism); (3) use of DNA variation in the measurement of genetic variability of populations; (4) gene maps (physical maps, genetic maps, comparative maps), strategies for gene mapping, and use of molecular techniques in the analysis of quantitative traits.
