The use of colours in insecticide-impregnated screen for the control of different species of tsetse fly

, : The use of colours in insecticide-impregnated screen for the control of different species of tsetse fly. Publication International Scientific Council for Trypanosomiasis Research and Control ( 115): 425

Blue was more attractive to palpalis group and fusca group species of Glossina, whereas black was more attractive to morsitans group flies, with the exception of G. longipalpis for which blue was more attractive.

In Jan. 1981, 79 km of riverine forest was treated with 876 screens of blue percale impregnated with decamethrin (100 mg of active ingredient/screen). In a large-scale experiment, a reduction of riverine tsetse fly populations exceeding 99% was achieved using biconical traps impregnated with insecticide. Trapping is an effective technique against tsetse flies. The results in terms of fly populat...

After 2 mo., the reduction reached 98...
