Oxygen was introduced in one of six aeration basins at the Slottshagen waste water treatment plant in Norrkoping, Sweden, from February to April in 1992. During this period nitrification was usually very low and oxygen levels over a large area of the aeration basins were below 1 mg/litre. Profile analyses and grab samples of effluent from two basins was analysed during oxygen dosing. This procedure indicated an increase in nitrification of approximately 4 mg nitrogen/litre.
