The value of debriefing mothers of 3- to 7-year-old children when analyzing children's food diaries

, : The value of debriefing mothers of 3- to 7-year-old children when analyzing children's food diaries. Journal of the American Dietetic Association 91(6): 710-711

The effect of debriefing mothers on the estimates of energy, fat, fatty acids and a variety of other nutrients obtained from 1-day food diaries of 71 children, 3 to 7 years old, was studied. Most of the food record modifications obtained made during a 10 min debriefing interview with the mother clarified the amounts of food consumed and the method of food preparation. At least one clarification was recorded for each food diary and a mean of 5 items were clarified per diary.
