The variability of fattening performance traits and carcass value in potential dams of the Czech Meat breed
Finishing performance and carcass quality were studied in the offspring of 2069 Czech Meat sows, of which 273 were selected as potential dams of boars. For these, daily gain averaged 855 g (658-1142, sigma = 77.3), TDN consumption per kg gain 1.95 kg (0.95-2.70, sigma = 0.201), the percentage of prime cuts 52.7 (50.5-57.4, sigma =1.04), and backfat thickness 20.6 mm (14.8-25.2, sigma =2.02).
