The following plant communities were identified during a phytosociological analysis in municipal Durban and Yellowwood Park covering about 300.13 kmsuperscript 2: mangrove forests with Avicennia marina-Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Eugenia capensis-Maytenus procumbens, Mimusops caffra-Allophylus natalensis, Manilkara discolor-Tricalysia lanceolata and Protorhus longifolia-Psychotria capensis communities; a valley bushveld complex with Rhus pentheri-Cussonia spicata and Dovyalis rhamnoides-Hippobromus pauciflorus communities; a shrubland complex with Acacia gerrardii-Rhus chirindensis and transitional communities; and a grassland complex with Bothriochloa insculpta-Hyparrhenia hirta, Phragmites australis-Cyperus immensus, Senecio madagascariensis-Panicum maximum, Phyllanthus burchellii-Digitaria eriantha, Sutera kraussiana-Aristida junciformis, Hypoxis gerrardii-Alloteropsis semialata, Helichrysum aureum-Themeda triandra and Dianthus zeyheri-Eragrostis curvula communities.
