The versatility of the poor. Traditional wetland farming in Sierra Leone
Although Sierra Leone has quite a heavy rainfall, it is concentrated in an eight month period whose start and end is irregular. Local farmers have developed a system of terrace irrigation and cropping of different varieties of dry and wet rice in their valley soils which allow them to survive consequent periods of drought and flooding.
