The article suggests that because of sampling errors, ski resorts in the USA may be underestimating the size of their local markets. The problem appears to be one of survey methodology in which over-sampling of more frequent skiers distorts the results. The purpose of the article is to illustrate the importance of markets close enough to drive to resorts, to all but a handful of destination resorts, exceptions such as Jackson Hole, Sun Valley and Telluride.
