The water regime in a young and an old Scots pine stand in the Grunewald (Berlin)
An account is given of studies in 1986-88 on the water balance (precipitation, interception, soil moisture tension, soil moisture content) in adjacent stands of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) 40-50 and 140-150 yr old. Great spatial variability was found in the values for moisture tension and moisture content. The reasons for this are discussed, and also the implications.
