Towards the map-based cloning of the tomato root-knot nematode resistance gene Mi

Although since the 1950s the Lycopersicon peruvianum Mi gene has been known as a dominant allele at a single locus located on chromosome 6 which, introgressed into L. esculentum, confers resistance to the 3 root-knot species (Meloidogyne incognita, M. arenaria and M. javanica) most damaging to cultivated tomato, its product and molecular structure have not yet been identified.
