Turkey rhinotracheitis (TRT) is an upper respiratory tract infection of turkeys, caused by a pneumovirus, which first appeared in the late 1970s in South Africa, but is now present in most countries where turkeys are kept commercially. The virus has also been strongly implicated as a factor in swollen head syndrome (SHS) of chickens.
