Veneer cutting of softwoods V. Influence of kind of nosebar on the veneer quality

Two shapes of nosebar were compared, a sharp bar having an 80 degrees sharpness angle and a roller bar having an 8 mm diameter with a floating bar system. To understand the behaviour of a floating bar system for softwoods, it was compared with a conventional fixed bar system having a 100% vertical opening in a study using Cryptomeria japonica as the material for cutting. The roller bar gave better results for veneer quality than the sharp bar.
