In field trials conducted on silty clay during the monsoons (June-Oct.) and wet seasons (Nov.-Mar.) of 1988-89 at Kerala, India, 4 pre-em. herbicides, tridiphane 48EC (0.4-0.6 kg/ha), butachlor (Thunder) 50EC (1.0 kg), butachlor (Searle) 50EC (1.0-1.5 kg) and thiobencarb 10G (1.5 kg), were compared to hand weeding twice (HWT) for the control of weeds (22% grasses, 40% sedges and 32% broadleaved weeds (BLW) at 60 d after sowing) in wet-sown rice MO-6.
