Zinc and liver cirrhosis

, : Zinc and liver cirrhosis. Acta Gastro-Enterologica Belgica 53(3): 292-298

Zinc was estimated in serum of 73 patients, 24 to 71 years old, with cirrhosis with or without hepatic cancer and in that of 39 healthy controls, 19 to 52 years old, before and at intervals during 24 h after they were given Zn in the form of ZnSO4, 8 mg by vein. Zn was estimated in urine during 24 h before and 24 h after the Zn load. Mean basal Zn in serum was significantly lower in cirrhotic patients than in controls (76+or-19 and 119+or-19 micro g/100 ml, respectively).
