Zoonotic importance of brucellosis at Behera Governorate in Egypt
Blood samples were collected from cows (78), buffaloes (20), sheep (56) and goats (30) from various localities at Behera province, and subjected to the serological examination using the Rose Bengal plate test (RBPT) and the blood serum tube agglutination test (SAT). Percentage distribution of positive cases by RBPT was 10.7, 8.9, 5.0 and 0 in sheep, cows, buffaloes and goat respectively. The seroprevalence as determined by SAT was 7.1, 6.4 and 5.0 in sheep, cows and buffaloes respectively. Among 62 human serum samples examined 11.3 and 8.1%, respectively, were positive by RBPT and SAT. Individuals living in close contact with infected animals had higher (20.0%) reactors. The RBPT was superior to SAT.
