Species patent on transgenic soybeans granted to transnational chemical giant-W.R. Grace

RAFI Communique (March/April): 1-8
Species patent on transgenic soybeans granted to transnational chemical giant-W.R. Grace
Issues associated with the granting of a European Patent on all transgenic soyabean varieties to Agracetus (a subsidiary of W.R. Grace) are discussed. It is contended that such patents pose a serious threat to global food security and the well-being of small farmers. Agracetus has been awarded a US Patent on all transgenic cotton and has a claim for a World Patent on transgenic rice.
