'Gil': a new avocado cultivar

, : 'Gil': a new avocado cultivar. HortScience 30(1): 158

Originating from a cross between Tova and an unknown pollen donor, this Persea americana variety of the A-flowering group produces fruits with a somewhat pimpled skin and medium gloss, averaging 300 g and ranging from 250-400 g, compared with a range of 160-220 g for Hass. The fruit is black when ripe or when fully mature but can be harvested when still green. Moreover, it can be stored on the tree for 2-3 months after it turns black (usually from March onwards).
