17 alpha ,20 alpha -dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one, not its 20 beta isomer, is produced from 17 alpha -hydroxyprogesterone by spermatozoa of secondary male groupers (Epinephelus tauvina) derived from females implanted with 17 alpha -methyltestosterone

Journal of Experimental Zoology 271(6): 462-465
17 alpha ,20 alpha -dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one, not its 20 beta isomer, is produced from 17 alpha -hydroxyprogesterone by spermatozoa of secondary male groupers (Epinephelus tauvina) derived from females implanted with 17 alpha -methyltestosterone
Spermatozoa of derived from implanted with 17 alpha -methyltestosterone were incubated with 7hydroxyprogesterone for 2 h. The medium was extracted, and analysed by high performance liquid chromatography. A single major metabolite with relative retention time corresponding to 17 alpha ,20 alpha -dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17P) was produced by the spermatozoa. The presumptive identity of the metabolite was confirmed chemically.
