, : 2n gamete producers in diploid species of genus Medicago. Proceedings of the XVI International Grassland Congress, 4-11 October 1989, Nice, France: 247-248

To identify diploid genotypes (2n=2x=16) able to produce high frequencies of male and female 2n gametes, 8 diploid populations of the complex Medicago sativa/caerulea/falcata were utilized in more than 5000 2x-4x crosses. A pollen sample from each of the 91 diploid plants used in the 2x-4x crosses was stained and the presence of 2n pollen was determined by examining the diameter of the pollen grains. The results permitted the selection of seven 2n egg producers and nine 2n pollen producers.
