Behaviour of virus free apple cultivar with variation in rootstock, training system and planting distance

In an experiment at Rovigo in 1988-91, apple Ozark Gold on M.26 or MM.111 rootstocks were planted 1.5 or 2.25 m apart and trained as slender spindles, Y-trellises or Tatura trellises. Yields per hectare were higher on M.26 than on MM.111, were higher at the narrower than at the wider spacing and were higher when trained as slender spindles or Tatura trellises than as Y-trellises.
