Canopy photosynthesis capacity and the contribution of different organs in high-yielding winter wheat
In field trials in 1991-93 with 4 high-yielding wheat cultivars grown at 8000-20 000 seedlings/mu, the correlations between canopy photosynthetic rate and DM accumulation or grain yield were positive and significant. The flag leaf and the second leaf from the top of the plant both had high rates of photosynthesis, but the rate in the stem and leaf sheath was higher contributing up to 41.6% of the total canopy photosynthesis. The spike contributed 10-12% of total canopy photosynthesis.
