Combined effect of wastes of distillery and sugar mill on seed germination, seedling growth and biomass of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L) Moench)

The liquid effluents from a sugar factory and a distillery in the Seohara region of Uttar Pradesh are discharged into the Upper Ganges river via the same canal, and retard the growth and yield of crops downstream. The physical and chemical characteristics of the combined effluent are tabulated. Okra is a common crop in Seohara, and was therefore used to assess the effluent's effect on germination.
