Combining ability analysis for forage characters in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench)

In a line x tester analysis involving 3 cytoplasmically male sterile lines and 14 testers, variances due to lines, testers and their interactions were highly significant for plant height, stem girth, number of tillers, numbers of leaves, leaf area per plant and green fodder yield. Non-additive gene action played a major role in controlling all the characters, except number of tillers and number of leaves.
