Comparative studies on nutritive values of tender foliage of seedlings and mature plants of Moringa oleifera Lam

Comparative studies on nutritive values of tender foliage of seedlings and mature plants of Moringa oleifera Lam

Journal of Economic & Taxonomic Botany 17(2): 479-485

Total proteins, lipids, vitamins-A, B-1, B-6, C, fibre and ash estimations have been made in air dried tender foliage of four and eight months old seedlings and mature trees of M. oleifera. The seedling foliage is richer in protein, lipid, vitamin A, B-1, B-6, and C content than that of mature trees but has lesser content of fibre and ash. Vitamin B and C are on high scale than A. Comparison with other common leafy vegetables reveals seedling foliage of Moringa to be a richer source of nourishment.
