Contract farming in Zimbabwe: case studies of sugar, tea, and cotton

Living under contract: contract farming and agrarian transformation in sub Saharan Africa: 140-166

The understanding of the trade-offs involved in either promoting or rejecting contract farming as a form of agricultural and rural development has been limited by differing notions of the nature of contract farming and by partial or restricted evaluations of the impacts of these schemes. Contract farming does not necessarily lead to poverty, increased exploitation, and landlessness for smallholders, but not all contract farming schemes have been successful.
