A method is proposed for measuring wood surface smoothness, using a profilograph which transforms a continuous signal into a discrete signal. The design and operating features of the profilograph are described, and results are given of surface smoothness measurements on various wood surfaces (pine, oak, beech) prepared in various ways (sawn, planed, sanded).
