Dehydration and deformation of root plugs at transplanting affect yield potential of transplanted cabbage seedlings

, : Dehydration and deformation of root plugs at transplanting affect yield potential of transplanted cabbage seedlings. Applied Plant Science 8(2): 52-53

Uniform cabbage Green Star seedlings produced in polystyrene trays were transplanted into a ploughed and disced field by either (1) normal planting, (2) forcing the root plug into the ground without making a hole then covering with soil or (3) placing the root plug sideways on the ground, the leaves bent upwards, and covering with soil. All 3 treatments were performed using plugs saturated with water before planting or unwetted plugs.
