This paper examines the sex composition of the various ethnic groups in Sarawak and in particular highlights the preponderance of females among the Iban. It defines basic demographic terms and examines the male preponderance at birth and higher male infant mortality. A brief section compares sex ratios in Sarawak and Sabah and peninsular Malaysia. The sex ratios and vital statistics of the various ethnic groups (Malay, Iban, Chinese, Bidayuh, Melanau, others) are compared.
