Description and management of well-drained savannas in the north-eastern region of Venezuela

Zootecnia Tropical 11(1): 71-103
Description and management of well-drained savannas in the north-eastern region of Venezuela
A description is given of the distribution, climate, soils and vegetation of well-drained savannas which constitute 34.6% of total savannas in Venezuela. Although Trachypogon species are dominant in these grasslands and give up to 11.7 t DM/ha, nutritive value is low and since grasses mature very rapidly, intake by grazing animals is low.
