, : Description of the new genus Larssonia based on an ultrastructural study of Microsporidium (Pleistophora) obtusa from Daphnia pulex (Cladocera). Parazitologiya 28(3): 202-213

Light and electron microscopy studies were carried out on Microsporidium obtusa (originally described as Pleistophora obtusa) obtained from Daphnia pulex in Kaunas, Lithuania. The main characteristic of the species was the presence of an intermediate diplokaryotic stage between merogony and sporogony. All the other developmental stages were monokaryotic. The sporophorous vesicles contained even numbers of spores (between 4 and 32), resulting from rosette-type budding.
