We developed a 216-container system and performed replicated experiments evaluating 3 concentrations of 10 compounds, plus a control and a reference, applied via three methods in two walk-in environmental chambers. The reference, isopropyl (N-3-chlorophenol)-carbamate (CIPC) maintained over 50% nonsprouting tubers and all untreated controls sprouted early. None of the 10 test compounds appeared to be as effective as the CIPC reference in any of the concentrations. There were no important differences in sprouting associated with location in the test rooms. These results verify the appropriateness of our system design and simplify future experimental design considerations.
