The properties of beta -carotene as an antioxidant have been implicated as paramount in its protective and therapeutic effects in the process of carcinogenesis. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the efficiency of Dunaliella bardawil beta -carotene, which is composed of the all-trans and 9-cis isomers, compared with the synthetic all-trans beta -carotene, in preventing lipid peroxidation in vivo.
