The roots of A. acuminata are used to treat phthisis and spasmodic coughs, and as an anaesthetic and anodyne. Callus was induced from leaves cultured on a medium containing 2,4-D (0.1 mg/litre). Root initiation from the midrib of some explants was also observed.
