Effect of energy-restricted feeding on the metabolism of breeding bulls. 2. Changes of the liver enzymes, thyroid hormones and the lipid peroxide status of red blood cells

Breeding bulls were fed for 4 weeks on a low-energy diet (energy content equal to 13.36% of requirement). Blood was taken weekly for 5 weeks to estimate plasma triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) and activities of liver enzymes in serum. In the feeding period, there were regular changes in values of T3 and T4. Concentration of malondialdehyde decreased slightly, whereas activity of glutathione peroxidase in red blood cell haemolysates decreased considerably.
