Effect of irregularity in fertilizer application during mechanized thinning on the increment of Norway spruce

An analysis is made of the irregularity of fertilizer distribution by a tractor-mounted MVU-1 machine which blows the granular or powdery material for up to 20-25 m from the line of travel. The machine was working from parallel skidding trails in a 70-year-old stand of Picea abies following a thinning. Data are presented on the increment response, which was greatest in the zone of greatest fertilizer concentration (6-15 m from the machine) and least in the zone adjacent to the trail (0-6 m).
