In trials in the Mesa de Guanipa, Venezuela, during the rainy season from late June to mid-Nov., B. humidicola was given 0, 37.5, 75.0 or 112.5 kg N/ha applied as urea at the start of each growth cycle and sampled at weekly intervals from 7 to 70 days after cutting to a height of 10 cm. Average DM yields in the 1st and 2nd growth cycles were 2.74 t and 0.52 t/ha, respectively, and DM yield increased significantly with each increase in applied N.
