Effect of recreational compaction on the physical properties of grey forest soil in the forest

In an oak/hazel (Quercus sp./Corylus sp.) forest on grey medium clay-loam soil overlying heavy clay-loam in the Tula region of Russia, measurements were made of the density, pure content, moisture content, and fractional composition of the soil on 4 sites: well-used paths (soil density 1.15 and 1.4 g/cmsuperscript 3), a forest road used by vehicles (1.53 g/cmsuperscript 3), and an area unaffected by recreational pressure (0.85 g/cmsuperscript 2).
