Effect of relative humidity on the nymphs of Dysdercus koenigii (Hemiptera: Pyrrhocoridae) in relation to survival, instar duration and growth

Nymphs of all instars of Dysdercus koenigi died in 48 h in an environment of 53 and 62% RH, even if the temperature was suitable (around 30 degrees C). Between 96 and 72% RH, the percentage survival of nymphs and the duration of the 1st 4 nymphal instars were not significantly affected. The duration of the 5th-instar increased from 156.5 to 193 h in the male, and from 174 to 203 h in the female with a decrease in humidity level from 96 to 72%.
