Effect of rice based crop sequences on yield and economic sustainability under irrigated condition of eastern Uttar Pradesh

In a field experiment on clay loam soil in 1979-89 at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, rice followed by mustard and then greengram produced the highest mean rice equivalent yield (17.09 t/ha) and net returns compared with other rice-based crop sequences (wheat-fallow, -V. radiata or -fodder sorghum + cowpeas, gram fallow and maize-V. radiata).
