Effect of rice wx gene on carbohydrate accumulation and amylase activity of germinating grain

Results from a study of 2 pairs of waxy and non-waxy nearly isogenic lines suggest that gene wx controls synthesis of amylopectin in the early stage of grain development. beta -Amylase activity was higher and that of alpha -amylase lower in germinating waxy grains compared with non-waxy grains.
